Mod Help Needed
Ok, I just got a load of money from doing a lot of projects and side jobs. I am looking to spend no more than around $1300 bucks and I want to get a turbo back exhaust. I absolutely have no knowledge of what im looking for or whats good or bad. I have been reading some of the stuff on this site and some peeps say get the truboxs or the Vishnu and then get the hks muffler.
All I want is the most rewarding (in performance) and I don’t care how loud it is. It can be obnoxious for all I care. I like loud exhausts =).
Any comments or suggestions where to look up info and statistics would be wonderful. + I will be installing it my self with a friend that knows how cuz I want to learn. Thanks in advance.

Well, just got off phone with Subaru of Santa Cruz. Talked to a tech. Even if I replace the cat or do some type of hi-flow cat they will still F me and void my warranty..... I guess its cat back for me. Unless there is another way I don’t know?

its the risk you take. they cant void your warranty i dont think if you put on an exhaust, they can only deny you claims if the aftermarket exhaust can be linked in any way to the part that fails on your car.
so if you throw on the exhaust and your door handle breaks, they have to service you. they cant just void the warranty (im almost positive of this, but correct me if im wrong). also, its up to THEM to prove that your aftermarket part caused an OEM part to fail.

They get all pissy because in the state of California if your car is OBDII (which I believe ALL cars made after '97 are) you can only replace your cats with OEM or OEM rebuilds. I think that there is a time frame which you can use aftermarket Hi-Flow cats after, but I think it's several years.
As for voiding the warranty, SEMA has a lot of good information on what is and isn't legal for a manufacturer to void because of bolt ons. Sport Compact Car Magazine also has really good articles on this occasionally. Try doing an internet search on it...

subaru is all pissy about the warranty. The guy told be that you can only do the cat-back exhaust and CAI without affecting warranty.
Talk to the head TECH at your local subaru tho, he tells me that that is BS and that up-pipes and other mods are ok. That's what I'm going with: up-pipe, CAI, and cat-back...for now..

So I think I am just going to go with the Turboxs turbo back then. I went to their site and they now have a different muffler to make it even LOUDER... Has any one heard the new muffler? I think it’s loud enough as is.
After getting this, I will probably get an intake, and then some new IC hoses and maybe a BC.
What do you guys think? I don’t want to void warranties. Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

I think all those mods wouldn't affect the warranty. The only one I know they would have a problem with is the boost controller. I know they get real fussy if you turn up the boost. Some dealers are worse than others. I took my car in to have the 'clutch shudder' problem fixed, and they did not say a word about my catback, cold air intake, boost controller, or blow off valve. Even replaced my brakes under warranty. All depends. But it is correct in saying that they cannot void your entire warranty. They can only deny claims for problems that arise that can be directly attributed to an aftermarket piece, but they usually won't hassle you for small stuff. If they do, you can always try to go through SOA to get the problem fixed.
I think the key to warranty issues (with SoA) is to talk to your dealer and only do what they say will be ok (and maybe even have them do it). My dealer, Subaru of Thousand Oaks, doesn't mind certain small things. They sell and install certain mods (like the Injen CAI, certain cat-backs and a couple other things). They don't want me to do anything like turbo timer, BOV, headers, up/down-pipe, etc. I am planning to play by the rules until 36k.....
After all, regardless of if they *should* be able to do so or not, it would really suck to have a warranty claim denied for something as silly as a BOV.
