Car Info: Soon to be '03 WRX
I know there has been millions of post on what mods should be done. I have a friend that has a VW Jetta 1.8t and a friend that has a Cummins Turbo Diesel Ram Truck. The Jetta runs high 14s and the ram truck runs high 13s. I just got a '03 WRX. (not the RS)
I was wanting to put it over 300 hp and increase the ft-lb torque in it. I was wondering what I could do to accomplish it. If there is anything out there that will guide me please let me know. Im also looking for sites that sell parts for the WRX. Here is a list of what I am thinking of getting:
New Tranny
Turbo
Injectors
Headers
Downpipe
Front Mount Intercooler w/Silicon Pipes
Exhaust
This is all that I can think of but I dont know what brands to buy. I want to get the best so all you experienced ones out there please help a noobie out with your wisdom. Thanks

before you do anything, i suggest you research...research a LOT. itll save you in the long run if you havent already. case in point, i was going to modify my intake on my WRX as one of the first things, until i read around here and on another forum (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/) that our stock intake is great until your doing high power applications (as in the 500hp stuff).
its seems from what ive gathered on these sites that our cars definately get HUGE benifits with a full turbo-back exhaust system (ie catback and downpipe/midpipe, or some companies sell downpipes that replace botht eh stock dp and mp). your lookign at average gains of 25+ whp from just opening up the exhaust system.
another option is the uppipe. now, ive never actually heard of the cat in the uppipe going sour and causing debris to run into the turbo, but people suggest that its unsafe. another reason to get rid of that cat in the uppipe is that in doing so youll have the turbo spool around 500 rpms quicker, and youll get better throttle response.
chip the car. you can either go with a UTEC system that you can tune yourself (if you know what your doing) from some companies or you can, like i am planning, go the cheaper route and send your ECU into cobbtuning.com for a reflash that you designate. if you start getting into the higher HP range, you should probably go with the UTEC and spend the extra dough so that you can get it tuned, or tune it yourself, to your exact cars specifications.
dont also plan on just "go fast" parts. work on the suspension, put in some springs and shocks (or coilovers if you got the dough). rear sway bars seem to help tons with our car (although i havent installed one yet). dont neglect the suspension...what good is going fast in a straight line (unless your just drag racing)?
also look at putting some better rubber on the car for the summer. itll help handling a ton. dont cheap out on the tires, only get the best, you wont regret it. dont get really heavy rims that look pretty if your all about performance...youll definately kill your performance with heavier rims.
if you treat your tranny right, i dont think there is a need to swap it out with a 6speed (itll run you in the neighborhood of 5k) unless you are planning on going the huge HP route.
now i dont know if u were talking 300 wheel hp or crank hp, but if its crank then the above stuff will put you above that number i think (put u at around 225 awhp or more). for 300 awhp, then youll have to start getting into the turbo swaps and fuel stuff, which im not planning on doing (yet
), and for which im not knowledgeable.
just do your research. read this site and NASIOC everyday, itll help, and do searches, most of the time your questions have already been asked and answered (its the quicker route to asking and waiting for responses).
here are some sites that sell stuff and that you should check out.

Wow, thanks everyone for replying and helping out. I was a little apprehensive about posting because I know that some forums people yell at you for asking questions. For the most part I knew I-Club wasnt like that so I felt better about posting. Thanks for the helpful sites and all the words of wisdom. Please dont stop there, keep the info coming because im sure there are others out there just like me that have questions about modding there cars. So please keep the info coming because at some point in time everyone needs all the help that they can get. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.
Thanks

Well im willing to spend any amount over a period of time. I am married but dont have any kids so that makes it easier. I went to one of the websites posted in this thread and did a little fantasy shopping and when I finished I think that I had spent around 10 grand. There are still some things that I needed to get that I didnt. I was wondering what is the highest amount of whp that you guys have heard a WRX achieving. My initial goal was to get around 300whp but I was reading threads and sites talking about hitting over 400 and 500 hp. What mods would I need for that? What I want to do it mod my car completely engine,suspension,brakes,etc.. but leave the outside looking normal. I want to make it look completely stock or a sleeper car and when someone wants to race just blow their freakn doors off. Thats my ultimate goal. If anyone can help me out please do.
One more thing. Whats the fastest car that anyone has heard that a wrx has beat in a drag race? Thanks guys and keep the help coming.

buy a stroker kit, FMIC, turbo, turbo-back exhaust, AEM CAI, and a UTEC or something similar(there may be a few accesories that i might have forgotten, but those are the major things)...also buy a book called "training wrx part 2"(somethin like that) so you can learn some stuff about the wrx before you decide what to do
all this can be purchased on www.vividracing.com
good luck!
