MBC vs. Stock BC with re-map?
IIRC i read the stock boost parameters can be remapped to get rid of the half boost in 1st and 2nd gears and other things. Is this true and is it more benificial then using an MBC and mapping for the PTFB issue?
Thanks in advance

All in all i've been told the car doesn't like the MBC as much as it likes the remap. If your looking for gains i guess the remap is the way to go.
getting a remapped ECU like the ECUtek will work better than a MBC. not only will you have a trained professional remap the boost levels on your car, but basically, instead of just changing the boost on the car the entire engine will be tuned to work at its best.
both options have their risk but MBC has no warranty and is easy to use incorrectly and blow up the engine

The stock WRX ECU is not programmed for performance as the first priority. It tries to maximize fuel economy when driven "sensibly" (think EPA city/highway cycle), minimize emissions, and protect the engine from bad gas, overboost, high charge temps, etc. Performance ranks 3rd or 4th for the stock ECU.
A remap makes performance a higher priority than emissions or fuel economy.
If your question is about remapping the ECU, but only changing the fuel maps to work with the boost profile of the MBC, that would be possible, but in reality, nobody does it that way. A remap gives you control over the boost response of the SBC, the fuel maps, ignition maps, and much more. It can respond any way your tuner tells it to. Get a reflash from an experienced tuner or company, and enjoy the power without the worry of the MBC.

They pretty much did a great job of explaining it
. A remap is definitely the best way to go, espeically if you're planning many future modifications. It's much safer, more reliable and definitely worth the money. Also, as you add modifications, I believe you can get it retuned for a very small cost. Someone have details on that?

"Reflashed" can be done at low cost, "retuned" implies dyno time and a tuner's personal attention. A reflash with an off-the-shelf map for the mods you just installed is always a possibility, and you can always plan your mods to match maps you know already exist. (That tip was worth the price of admission)
You''re at the point now where you need to contact the tuners directly for the answers you seek, or at least read their web sites.
