good and bad

good- NONE AT ALL-WASTE OF MONEY

Bad-will run lean major engine damage
- boost higher in higer gears. will cause fuel cut and possibly detonation
-can not boost much over stock on turbo because you would be not using the effect of the intercooler- higher engine combustion temp.

JUST SAVE THE MONEY AND PUT IT TOWARDS ENGINE MANAGEMENT

i put a hallman mbc on my 03, and yes it does creep in 3-5th, my car is almost all stock except hoses and bov. you shouldnt run much more boost than stock, mine would hesitate in 3-5th if i had it too high. its fun to have but i would save my money if i did it over again.

if you know what you're doing they can be very effective.

i've had one on my car for 40k miles.

good:
rock steady boost control
dead simple design
in my case, in cockpit "boost" **** to set desired levels

bad:
in the wrong/inexperienced hands they can kill your engine in a short time
have a "bad rap" as a result
some attention to part throttle full boost must be paid

stock turbo is known good up to 20psi--again IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. i ran that way all last winter. when i pulled it off it was in fine shape... ie no troubling amount of shaft play.

i had a LOT of supporting mods to do this. do not assume you can slap an mbc on a stock car and run 20psi for long. in fact, you won't get further than 200 feet before overboost fuel cut (set for 17-18psi) made you wake up and take notice in a hurry. you need full exhaust, fuel mods, engine management, gauges, *****, brains, etc.

for most intents and purposes, 15psi on a stage 1 (ie no mechanical mods) is safe.
16.5psi with no cats. set max boost in 4th gear. there is no reason you should be flooring your car in 5th gear.

i had one by turbo xs. than sold it. really gotta watch the boost gauge would over boost blah blah. the engine managment was way better. the mbc was a waste or 100 bucks
