When you just idle the car with AC off. At what temp it turns on?

203° F or 95° Centigrade, according to MY2002 service manual for turbo EJ20.

Thanks. Yeah I just realized I have shop manuals too, haha.

I cannot figure out why my fans don't work. I yanked th AC out so it might something to do with that, but I don't know. It is bugging the heck out of me as I don't want to wire them in to a switch...

Check out page WI-114 of Wiring manual (book Section 7). Fans are powered through 2 air-conditioning relays for each of the two fans, compared with 1 each for non-turbo.

I am not able to do much else to help, as it would take me a long time to methodically examine the wiring schematics and relays to figure out how to make them work like stock without the A/C system in place.

Yeah, avoid a manual switch for the radiator fans. That's asking for trouble if you are in a situation where you are busy and you forget to watch the temp gauge. Someone used to sell a temp sensor that could be mounted at the radiator and would switch on the fans at a user-adjustable temperature. That might work for you as an alternative.

This thermostatic kit might work if it can handle the current draw from the two factory fans. It uses an easy-to-install probe (thermocouple) that slips into the upper radiator hose to sense coolant temperature and activates the fans by an adjustable switch.
