Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Just how many miles will the EJ20 last?

Just out of curiosity, with proper care, and maintenance, just how long will the EJ20 last?
Are we looking at an engine that will go 200,000+ miles?

I know the engine has been around in the subaru family for roughly ten years or so, so I am sure it is very well engineered, but how long will a stock EJ20 last?

The EJ20 will last as long as any other good Japanese engine. Just do the proper maintenance and do not push it too hard, I'm sure you can reach your 200k+.

Hopeful

I got 250k miles out of a Ford 4cyl 2.3 EFI Turbo in a stock Merkur XR4Ti. It also made 14.5 pounds of boost. It would blow a fitting here and there, but these were usually obvious things you could fix by the roadside in a minute. I never had one minute of mechanical trouble from the engine or turbo, not even once. Mobil One all the way, every 3k. Turbo spooled a little slower, but still gave plenty of boost. Plenty of compression in all cylinders. No sludge. Had a second Merkur that was as good. I would not doubt that the Subaru EJ20T is mechanically at least as good. At least that is what I tell myself, having just bought a MY02 WRX sedan...today. It was very clean, almost like new with 55k miles on it.

i do mine every 5k or so. i remember a study by consumer reports that looked at ny taxicabs and checked them at 3k and about 5k or 6k. the difference was almost indistinguishable. the only people who benefit from 3k oil changes are the oil companies and places like jiffy lube (who are the ones who recommend the 3k changes). obviously you are not hurting you car, just overkill imo.
