JDM v7 STi motor
Suppose I want to purchase a v7 STi motor, would putting together a v7 long block and short block = the entire engine block ? if not what else will i need? sorry for this stupid question.. but I've been wondering for a long time.
you need the ecu also if your running avcs and the wire harness or plug or what ever
the short block is crank rod pistons all you need is heads
long block is all buttoned up with the heads ready to drop in with you existing alt ac.......

Most places sell the full engine assembly...if you are thinking about this...really the only couple options I think anyone would consider would be swapping the EJ207 short block in with the WRX heads...makes for a nice bottom end, the Ver. 7 heads are very nice, but you, like Sigma Pi mentioned, would need the ECU to run the AVCS as well as wiring the AVCS up...which is about 9 wires, but directly into your wiring harness. Then there would be just purchasing the whole motor, IE long block, intake manifold, all accessories, etc, which is nice cuz then you get the complete package...but this is rather expensive. I went this route, got the 6 speed with it...cant wait to get it into my 2 dr RS hehe. The Ver. 7 is an awsome platform....solid bottom end with forged internals, semi closed deck, rev's out to 8000rpm, but if you just swap the short block, you would need to rebuild the heads to rev that hight. Its possible, but either way, this kind of project takes some time, a good amount of money, and a lot of patience. Hope this helps.

you can get the non avcs heads or get the springs retainers......... but that might be more than just getting heads. and the v7 heads have bigger valves i think

LoL so do I. Im really trying to pull my **** together so I can have Adam from LIC start on the conversion. But as soon as it is done, swing by LIC...Im usually there when not in class or working, I would be happy to give you a ride! But if all goes as planned, the VF-30 that comes stock wont be there too long hehe as well as a bunch of other things.
I highly suggest the Ver. 7 setup...the bottom end is awsome, the heads are awsome, the tranny is godly. Very nicely rounded platform for making a good amount of daily horsepower.
