its not real hard to do, took me about 20 minutes.
1 take out the two bolts holding the intake in (they go through the intake into the frame)
2 the intak should just pull out,
3 unbolt the gold bolt that you should see now on the side where the intake went into the fender well
4 jack up the car on the front passenger side
5 take off the wheel (not neccesary but makes it a lot easier)
6 pull down the fender lining, there are a few clips take those off and be somewhat careful the metal tab they are hooked to is pretty flimsy
7 now look into the fender well toward the front of the car (you'll see the inside of the front bumper) here youl see the silencer a big black thing. there is another mounting point that you'll have to reach in and unbolt (toward the bumper)
8 once that bolt is taken off, you should be able to just pull out the silencer
now that you have the silencer out you need to extend the airbox into the fender again (the silencer did this before) I used duct tape for the meantime later i will head to the hardware store and fabricate something... doesnt look too hard, i also taped closed the hole that was created by removing the intake...
you can hack the part of the silencer that went into the airbox before, but that will ruin your silencer in case you ever want to put it back in :\
hope all this makes sense, cant go out to the car and take pics as im alone w/ the kid and dont want to have my car up on the jack without someone else to watch her
***disclaimer*** if you mess up your car by following these instructions A) you are an idiot and B) its not my fault. just use common sense and dont break anything
oh and sorry for the poor grammar and spelling, i just typed this hella fast and didnt proofread cause im lazy

The instructions are exactly the same for the WRX.

You can buy the replacement part for $35 or you can hack the bottom off of your existing snorkel and duct tape the hole so you don't get water in it. It's up to you.
