Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Intake

I'm looking at two types of intakes. I just want to know what you people think about the AEM CAI or the AEM Short Ram intake. Which on is better?

1st, Which type of car do you have?
2nd, This isn't an engine management question.
3rd, Are there dyno charts available?
4th, What do the dyno numbers tell us?
5th, When you say better, please elaborate.
6th, After Wicked answers question #1, can we get a mod to move this thread to the forum that it belongs in?

I have a 2002 WRX. All I want to know is does the CAI make more power then the Short Ram intake?

Have you called AEM yet to ask them this question?

No, because I would rather here peoples opinions on it not what the company claims it does.

Numbers don't lie. Peoples perceptions are often less then satisfactory. The "butt dyno" isn't as accurate as we'd often hope.

If you want truth, look at the numbers.

Forgot to mention..

What is nice about AEM is something that HKS USA also does.. You can't purchase products directly from them. That turns out to lead to CSRs that are betting informed of products and are not concerned "with the sale."

the MSRP on the Cold Air is about $250 whereas the short ram is $200; just something else....

I would definitely have to say go with the CAI over the short ram. Jgrahn knows where I'm coming from on this one. But at $250, I'd seriously look at a Cobb instead. I really really doubt that any intake can make more usable power than Cobb's, and they are highly dedicated to Subaru tuning... AEM and HKS are just now getting on the bandwagon.

lol... some of these comments (and you know who you are) are the reason why i simply hate the retail automotive market... lol.

Hey Eastwind, go bolt on a catless downpipe to any turbo car and tell me that is "almost useless" "without engine tunning".

Intercoolers do not add power by themselves. A larger intercooler only gives you an added margin of safety against detonation whihc would be caused by other mods. In other words, until you have a complete turbo back, a small increase in boost and some sort of fuel/ignition tuning, stock is fine.

I don't believe Vishnu's stage 0 can make that much of HP only from uppipe, it also requires some sort of engine management like unichip.
