idle at 500 rpm??
Yes, the engine idle's at a higher rpm to help warm it up faster. It also seems logical that because oil is so much more viscous at lower temps that the engine needs to spin faster to keep running until the oil warms (although I don't know how much stock to put in that theory). As far as I know pretty much all cars have this fast idle feature when cold. Atleast any car new enough to have a computer. All of my parents cars (Chevy Silverado, 2 Saturns, Mercury minivan) that I drove in high school fast idled in the cold.

My WRX liked to idle a touch higher... So I raised it to idle at 1000 RPMS.

I think the "rough" idle of my 02 WRX is "cute" for some reason -- it just gives me a grin every time. It reminds me so much of the Porsche 912 my dad restored while I was in high school...

I noticed when I first added my turbo-back that my idle droped approx 250rpm. Then I put the stock back on and it ran at 750 again. So I think it could have somthing to do with back pressure.
Anyone else have a similar experiance?
Not that I mind having a low idle, just curious.
