I have engine no clue what it is though...
I have only an engine and it has a turbo. The seller said it was JDM STI, but I thought all STI had red intake manifold. And even if it is or isn't, how do I tell what type it is i.e. EJ20,EJ22? Are there any stamps on the block and if so where? Its got dual cams and a turbo.

attached are some images that might help find the serial number. And here is what the numbers mean.

1 and 2 are the engine type (EJ)
3 and 4 are the displacement (2.5l)
5 is the fuel feed system 1 is d-mpi sohc and 5 is mpi turbo
6 is exhaust regulations A is for california don't know what the others are
7 is the trans type that was stock for the engine w=MT x=AT
8 is for minor changes 3 was the number done to this vehicle (3)
9 and 10 are codes used for ordering parts. (AB)
This information is from the technical manuals so I don't know what every thing means but I hope it helps.

you'll need to post pics of the engine as a whole then. some turbo subaru engines are: EA81T, EA82T, EJ22T, EJ20T, EJ25T. Maybe search for engine pics on the net of those types and post them here or give us a link to verify what you have.

Early STi didnt have red intake manifold. Its only from Ver3 (maybe 4)
If it has turbo and air-to-air intercooler, its EJ20G
EJ20K and EJ207 from newer STi has red intake manifold.
Picture will be very helpful here.
or post the serial number of the turbo, you can guess from there too.

Ok so its not in my clutches, but Im gunna buy it from a slacker who doesnt wanna put it in his 2.5RS '02. I wanna put it in my '99 Prez ootback. After Im done bein' NA. I'll ask him what it's got on the intake cuz I sawwhat mines got an it says "22" meaning 2.2, No?
