I got beaten by a stage 1 :(

Ok.. here's what happened.....

I have a cobb stage 2 on my 05 WRX. And my friend has a stage 1. We both have a HKS SSQ BOV.

We raced from a stop. I launched a little better than him, but he started to pull me on the 3rd gear. And I was beaten by a stage 1. WTF!!!!!!

Can someone please tell me why this would happen?

Please.... need some answers to it!!

Was everything else equal? Is he half your weight? :-) Maybe he shifted better, kept the engine at peak power. Or maybe you are making less power than expected. What is the difference in power between stage 1 and 2 typically?

i think someone complained about the exact same problem -- stg2 being beaten by stg1, but he got walked from a roll.

Have him drive your car and you drive his. You'll find the problem.

I have 18" rims and he has stock.... but that won't make that much of difference.
I went to the dealers and they said I have to adjust my wastegate. My boost is a bit lower than average. But will it make so much difference with one pound of boost lower?

yeah, it's surprising how much of a difference small amounts of boost can make.

i agree with ish and jvick125. bigger rims can way more and less boost means less power.

I'm not really sure about the rims' weight. It's VR gold rims. Yeah I agree it is heavier than the stock ones. But stage 2 is like 285hp and stage 1 is 255hp though. do you guys know how to adjust the wastegate?

Well.. that's what I think. I should either try to adjust the wastegate or just change the base map into HWG mode.

18" rims

Bigger rims will definately slow you down. Especially 18's. Those extra few pounds and rotational mass at each corner will make your car feel as if it's driving through mud. Try switching to a 17" rim if you're into racing. I noticed a difference when I went to my 17" rota attacks. The car felt a little less quick off the line. BUT, the pay off was the massive improvement the wider tires made in the turns....with minor suspension and tire moddification our cars stick like glue to the road....As far as straightline (drag racing) traction,...we have AWD, use the skinniest, lightest tires/rims you can get away with (if that's your thing).

Yokohama ES100's 225/45-17's on 17" rota attacks, cobb sway bars, eibach springs
