HOW TO: remove the stock boost controller & have a happy ECU
[this might be WTLW to some... I've never heard it before and I've never heard it here on I-Club. I was talking with someone on IRC and they gave me this idea, so I'm just passing it on]
OK, if you are going to do this, you've already replaced the stock boost controller. So there's no info here on how to disconnect the stock one and replace it with an aftermarket one. However I got tired of having my EBC solenoid far from the turbo. So I completely took out the factory BC and put the aftermarket EBC's solenoid in its place.
The problem we run into is the ECU gets cranky when it doesn't see a solenoid device, so you gotta make it think it detects one. This is basically the same as the "CEL fix" for the EGT probe in the uppipe, etc.
So what's all the hoopla? When you take out the solenoid you have to unplug it from a harness. Put a 10k ohm @ 0.5watt resistor across the harness left behind. Haven't had a CEL for over 1000 miles.

thanks for the info.
i like removing stuff that i don't need/use. it isn't enough for me to disconnect the daytime running lights, i had to pull that little silver thingy too. i also removed my cruise control entirely and now i can throw my stock solenoid into that same storage box too.
