How much Advance in timming with an ITC and stock IC

A month ago i installed an Apexi ITC, i've been advancing the timming about 5 degree, i wonder how much is the maximun advance with a stock Intercooler.
I wat to change the IC for a FMIC or an STI TMIC, so i could work it with more advance, cause with the stock IC the engine detonates at 6 degree, (boosting 1.6 Bar). Any experience with more advance and an aftermarket IC????????

SLOW DOWN,

Boosting 1.6 Bar is almost 24psi. That is not safe for a what I would assume is a stock WRX with a Apexi Intercooler. I am not surprised that it is detonating. Sorry that I don't have more info regarding the injector specs, but turn the boost down before you blow something up.

Kevin, dont worry, i have a VF22 turbo, not the stock one. BTW i have a stock engine, it's a 2000 WRX and also with 130HP NOS Shot. The engine is fine, for now, i know it's going to blow, but for now it's working fine. I installed the ITC and i advanced 4 to 5 degree the timming and no detonation happens, but my question is how much is the maximun advance with a better IC, cause the stock one is a Sh&$, more than 5 degre it detonates, and with a bettre IC i'll wont.
So, wich is the maximun??????????? (with a huge IC)
Thanks anyway.

how do you know you're getting detonation? are you doing it by ear or are you data logging off the knock sensor? if you're doing it by ear then you might already be getting trace knock long before you hear it.

i don't know how much you'd be able to advance w/ a better IC. not many people here use the ITC. those who would have some idea are probably using the UTEC which has a much finer control over timing than the ITC provides.

the ITC is only able to adjust timing at preset RPM levels which is it's drawback. for example at 5,000 rpm you can advance or retard timing with the ITC but 5,000 rpm cruising (0 psi) versus 5,000 rpm at WOT (24 psi) are very different conditons.
