How the ECU detects impending doom... this or that?
I know that the ECU uses a knock sensor to trigger adjustments for timing, etc. But what then is the EGT sensor in a stock uppipe used for? Does each have its own threshold that alerts the ECU to take safety precautions? I'm asking because, like many of us, I have done the resistor fix for a catless uppipe. I'm wondering what affect this has on engine management. What might the ECU think when you have rising knock volume but low and perfectly stable EGT readings? Etc...
Thoughts?

the egt probe in the uppipe is only their to monitor emissions controls.. the temperature of the probe tells the ecu if your cat is working properly or not.. if not it throws a CEL... this signal is not used to adjust any performance setting of your ECU. But if you were having problems w/ the stock uppipe it may be a sign that your precat is degrading... obviously not a problem for those of us who no longer have the precat.
