HKS GT ball bearing Turbo?
I've been looking a lot at these turbos. Are these turbos workable for the WRX? Do they bolt up to the factory flange? If anyone has any info on them like what size would be a good streetable upgrade that would be great? I know most people just talk about VF series turbos but they have never really appealed to me. No particular reason I have just always loved HKS products. So I would really appreciate any info on the GT turbo and how the WRX would do with it. I am looking for 300+ hp but still a great daily driver. Thanks!

You will need a lot of modification to run an HKS GT series turbo. None of them will just bolt up, you will need an external wastegate, custom uppipe/manifold, etc. The HKS GT2835 is available for the WRX, but it definately is a track only setup.

Well I did a little reading in the Sept issue of SCC and two of the J-spec cars (one of the Imprezas and the Evo VI) both use HKS GT turbos. The STi uses a GT2835R and the Evo uses a GT3037S. They have some mods like an external wastegate and bigger injectors, but other than that not too much. So maybe it would be workable. I guess it is just a matter of finding a way to bolt it all up.

HKS has more than a doesen of diff turbos that could be used on the WRX. They have lots of various compressor/turbine combinations with different trims. Also, some of those turbos are not available in US.
In Japan, few companies have a "turbo setup kit" which in most cases include an uppipe adapter, wastegate and the turbine. The rest has to be custom made.
I can help you getting those setups, but it is up to you to select a turbo, unless you want to leave it up to BOZZ Speed to select it for you based on your requirements.
Also, these setups are not cheap at all.

I think I really like the 3037S. It is on an Bozz speed Evo VI. SCC said it had suprisingly little lag for that amount of power. It was putting out around 450hp. If a 2 liter Evo can do it I am sure a WRX could benefit the same way with this turbo as long as I have the fuel supply to support it.

You won't want that turbo after you find out the price tag for it. HKS has put a HUGE markup on prices on their turbos for the U.S
Also, just because you saw a heavily modded race-only Lancer EVO using the GT3037, what makes you think that turbo will work well on your WRX. Do you have extensive engine modifications to make full use of it? I bet you anything if you just installed that turbo on your car, you'd hate it. You'd be fighting the lag all day. You definately need some serious internal mods like a stroker kit to get the most out of that thing. Not to mention the engine management needed.

Hey Pimpwagon, my bad for thinking of trying something different.
"what makes you think that turbo will work well on your WRX. Do you have extensive engine modifications to make full use of it? I bet you anything if you just installed that turbo on your car, you'd hate it. "
Hmmm.....If I knew it would work well, WHY would I have posted here??? THINK! Obviously I'm not going to go into the garage and slap me on a big ol' turbo. I'm looking for info on a turbo setup and how possible it is; not attitude and sarcasm from some one who knows just way too much to have enough respect to leave a decent post for a newbie.

Not that much info on this turbo(gt3037) as far as personal experience goes with it in the WRX. I know its a big/expensive turbo...but it is tempting to me. Especially since ive seen a couple of people selling them for less then a grand. I know i need a lot of supporting mods to get the most out of it, if any one has opinion on it , POST IT!!!. THank you

they have the gt 2540r turbo kit upgrade that i was looking into. they didnt have much info on the site but when i searched harder, i found out that it comes with their up pipe, downpipe, turbo, and suome other things to make it into a complete bolt on. their dyno sheet said it made 246 hp i think with the boost set at 1 bar.
if your interested in it, i can probably get it for you. I dont wanna sound like a shark or something. just trying to help u and me out at the same time. I can probably match or beat any price you find on websites for that kit. just email me at echun2049@yahoo.com for info.
