hi there, i just installed hks bov and short-ram intake yesterday, after installation i went for a test drive, and the "check engine" light went on, after i got home, i unplug the battery, and plug it back after 10 mins, the light went off!!
today after i drove for a while the light went on again, so i just do the same as yesterday, unplug the battery and plug it back again!! but the light went on again after a while...!!
any idea of what happen?? HKS BOV, or intake causing this problem??

WRX= Factory Turbo forum. Thank you drive through.
EDIT: Oh yeah, it's not your BOV unless it's somehow causing overboost. Cold air intakes on near-stock WRXs almost always cause a lean condition, and that is BAD. Reset your ECU and see if it learns how much air you're really flowing. If that doesn't work, you need to find a way to force more fuel into the combustion cycle. Or dump the intake on eBay.

Disconnect your battery. Step on your brake pedal for a minute. Wait 5 more minutes. Reconnect and start up.
If possible, do this too: Immediately after your first restart, be somewhere that you can immediately get to 3rd gear at about 4000 RPM and be able to hold it for about 20 seconds. You will instantly gain horsepower.

Dude-
Instead of repeatedly resetting your ECU which will not fix anything, go and get the code read and post it, then someone can give you useful advice. Autozone should read the code for free, or you can post in your local area forum either here or on NASIOC and a local member with a scanner can read it for you.
The light will keep coming back on until you find and correct the problem that is causing it. It is most likely your short intake, as mentioned these are known for causing problems on WRXs. You may need to go back to your stock intake to solve this.
If you happen to be in the NYC/LI area I can scan the code for you.

Yeah, if it came back you need to deal with the problem. I was hoping it was just one of the random CELs that get thrown for no real reason occasionally. Go to the dealer though, they should do it free under warranty. Barring that, buy your own code puller and check it yourself.

yup, i found out the problem is the intake, i uninstall the intake and install my stock air box back into my car, and reset the ecu again, the light went off .......and it had been 2 days, so i think 99.99% is the intake causing the CEL on, !!
but my conern now is, i have a FMIC just arrival today, i want to install it, but i can't use my stock air box with my FMIC, so which company's intake is good (without CEL on)??
edit: the intake i used is those cheap one on ebay!! beware...!!
thank you...!!

if you are constantly worried about cel lights there is the doo hickey I read about in another post that prevents the cel light from coming on no matter what is going on. Costs 20 bucks, Im sure your local performance shop will know what it is.

Blitz
You will want a Blitz short ram intake or other reputable manufacturers' short ram intake to make room for the new IC.Plenty of room for your FMIC and no cel's.Older versions of the Blitz threw cel's but the portion which houses the MAF sensor was redesigned to flow correctly.I have had one (thanks Vincent!) with stock IC for 6k miles and in conjunction with a Forge bov for about 1k and still no problems.
cel fix costs like 15 bucks. Buy it on ebay, there is a guy selling tons of them. Or if you are from the bay area call gruppe-S. All you have to do is buy it take off your second o2 sensor from your downpipe and tap it in. Instructions are included w/ the fix. It is real easy to do yourself. I just did mine 3 days ago, took me an hour.
The $20 CEL fix is ONLY for the P0420 catalyst inefficiency code, which usually results from eliminating the downpipe cat. It is not a miracle cure and won't get rid of a CEL from anything else.
