Bro, I think your question is a little bit more on the "common sense" side. Call your local parts shop and ask them, or go to the website of the manufacturer. There are many ways you can get them yourself without asking anyone. Not flaming you or anything bro. Good luck!

All blow off valves are "illegal" since they replace an item on the vehicle which relates directly to the emissions of the vehicle.
In CA they will fail a visual inspection by the now well trained police and will guarantee you a big fat F at a smog check.
This goes nort only for 100% vent to atmosphere but fifty/ fifty valves also. Anything which changes or tampers with the set path of the intake is illegal.
That said, live a little and enjoy the noisemaker until you get told to remove it or its time for a smog check.

Plus anything that distracts any drivers is a road hazard and you can be sent to a state ref. That is if and when you find a cop that is well trained enough to realize what that BOV is under your hood. Truth be told I have never heard of anyone being sent but in theory you could be sent to a state ref because of it. A cop would rather send you for being catless rather than a BOV. Good Luck

BOV is 2 bolts, catless is 300 dollars more and a crap load more bolts and requires jacking your car... WEAK stuff.

I have been privy to information that CA law enforcement has been going through extensive training on what to look for in order to strengthen the state income.Makes, models, how many cats they come with intake tracts etc.
Think that CARB sticker on your intake will get you off? A trip to the refferee and some fees later just to make sure that CARB sticker is what it states. It's getting very ugly.Random underhood checks are becoming the norm.
I keep saying my next car won't need any mods, but I know I could never afford that car!Until then I live like a criminal.

Nope, there's no correlation between what is sold at dealerships and what is street legal as far as emissions. Go to any speed shop and you'll see everything from intake manifolds to headers to camshafts that aren't CARB-approved for 50-state use. Most but not all will have a disclaimer stating that their parts are for 'off-road use'.

BOVs will probably never be legal since they can vent air that is metered as part of your induction (intake) system. They can affect emissions. That's why Subaru uses a bypass valve - at stock or slightly higher boost levels, it still does the job of a BOV and re-circulates the metered air back into the system and has no adverse effects on emissions.

JV's post is 100% correct here, my fellow Californicators, er, Californians. I've heard that the CHP has a guidebook (more like a guide binder) that covers these issues along with color photographs! Looks like someone's been doing their homework for the CHiPs

it all depends on how much of a dick that the cop wants to be... he could give you a fix it ticket to go have you head lights adjusted because they are shining too high...

"Random underhood checks are becoming the norm."

Wouldnt they need probable cause to have you open your hood? Seems to be no different than a trunk.

Now if they found you running catless, that seems like probable cause to make you open your hood to search for other mods. Or if they could hear the BOV.
