I was playing around in my WRX a while back when I decided to see what it could hit (speed). At about 120mph I began to hear a rrrreeeaaalllly loud noise coming from the car. It sounded like a loud huming noise coming from the tires. A few days ago I decided to let my friend drive the car and the same thing happened at 120 again (scared the crap out of him). I checked the speed rating on the tires and I believe that they are rated to about 140-150mph. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

I have also hade this happen. It sounds like it may be harmonics in the intake tract or body work. It gets louder as I approach 130+ mph. The reason I believe it was coming from the intake tract is that it was noticeable louder with a short ram intake as opposed to the factory air box I recently switched back to. The noise almost sounds like a horn at very high speeds. It is very annoying, but it does tend to keep me from going that fast more often.

 

Fold your mirrors in next time you go 120+MPH

Living in Germany allows me to make the higher speed excursions daily. Believe it or not my noise has gotten less and less over time, to the point I rairly hear it any more, but it is (and was) definetly there. Stock tires by the way are "V" rated. Either 139+ or 150+ depending upon where you do research. It ain't the tires. Personally done about 160 before sanity set in. "Prost"
