Look up the difference between "pitch" and "volume" in the dictionary.

I hear timing belt whine on my car but I like it.
I also hear the fr or the center diff whine when backing off throttle sometimes.
Not worried.

I had to have a new trans installed in my rex, and after it was installed the trans whined for a period of time. It went away after a few thousand miles. Listen to the WRC cars, you can hear the tranny whining pretty loud. Maybe your noise is similar.

I have the same thing on my Unmodified 03WRX -- never worried me too much -- figure with the turbo I would get some sounds I am not used to -- a high pitched wine while going 65-75 on the freeway -- it goes away with acceleration or deacceleration?

Yep, that's the one. Good to know it is normal, I was just curious about it. Now I have a good reason to throw some sound deadening at the firewall and upgrade my stereo speakers so I can drown it out!

i use mobil 1 synthetic in my tranny.

i also cut it with pennzoil synchromesh fluid.

the blend works a treat! no grind, excellent cold weather performance, cheap and always available at the nearest autozone.
