help w/ headers

I was looking into getting some headers. I've read that putting headers on a 2.0L is pointless, so I haven't really looked that heavily into it. Let me hear your opinions on this, let me know what you guys recommend.

Thanks,
Brett

Not worth it. It will take away from the BOXER rumble of the exhaust anyways, and maybe give you some hp's if you get it tuned.

drop a line with jeremy at Crucial. Have your port polished and coated. HP is about the same and you retain that nice boxer rumbe.

Or pick up a used set of equal length headers. They're not hard to find and can be had for like $250 already wrapped for you.

I believe only equal length headers will take away that boxer sound. Unequal length headers should retain it, for the most part anyway.

i have a bugeye, full exhaust, tomei headers with tomei uppipe. You gain a good bit of low to mid range power according to the butt dyno. Car feels like it runs strong all the time. If you're thinking about it, I would go ahead and get some headers (get the Tomei unequal length headers, very nice and comes with uppipe). You'll definitely feel the difference down low. The only drawback is that u will lose a tad bit of that boxer rumble, even with unequal length headers (unequal length changes the exhaust note somewhat).

What he said. I have HKS headers on my STi. Lose a bit of the rumble, but the torque gains feel great.

it still has the rumble, but its more raspy now.

Your quote from the youtube comment:

>>from the inside of my car it doesn't even sound like a subaru anymore. from the outside is still has the subaru sound, but its more raspy not as deep.<<

This is true for my car as well. I have a jdm exhaust setup (Hks catted dp, Hks Hi Power silent version, Tomei uppipe and headers). Inside of my car sounds like a Honda. I let somebody drive my car and it still has that boxer sound from outside, but at WOT, the exhaust note is definately raspier (doesn't sound as nice as without the headers)

Ya i know equal length headers makes it sound like any other 4 cyl. I was thinking about unequal headers. Anyone have the Megan racing headers?

On my car, headers and inlet, tgv delete makes up the difference in horsepower between my car and an STI w/ the same turbo (I have wrx heads)

STI's with upgraded turbos usually do 30-40hp more than 2.5 swapped WRXs, so I figure the headers make some difference

The more important thing though is how much power you're making - there's no doubt that just like TGV deletes this is a mod that makes more gains, the more horsepower you're making. If you're still on the stock turbo or a small turbo like vf series, why bother? The money is better spent on other stuff
