Help! Timing belt tensioner

So I got my car back from the 60k services, the mechanic told me the car ran fine but the timing belt tensioner is making noise. They are not sure what exactly the problem is but either the tensioner is going or the other small part is (I forgot what he said). He said if I am replacing the tensioner, then might as well do the belt also. I am looking at a $1500 job. Can someone please advise? The car has 60k miles, he said he has not seen a car with this few miles do that... If I keep driving like this, what could happen?

interesting... did you hear any noise?

if so, from where? from driver side?

is the noise constant or just in low rpm? only in 1st?

can you give us some more specifics?

i have a noise going on as well, and think it may be the same thing.

lastly, i wouldn't have a dealership do this work... $1,500 seems outrageous.

Honestly, I can't tell... I believe it comes and goes. He simply started the car and then popped the hood and pointed to the timing belt area. When I listened again, I didn't hear anything particular from that area. So it might be coming and going? I also had a co-worker listened to it, he said he didn't hear anything either. ??

What should be the reasonable charge for a job like that? This is not a dealer, but a independent shop...

Thanks a lot for your reply.

what's the symptoms of this?

will it always make noise?

i have a wierd rattle noise when engaging 1st gear in super low rpms... higher rpm engagement in 1st doesn't make the rattle noise...

i don't feel anything in the clutch, it's wierd and annoying me, i can't figure where it's coming from, i've done the knock test on everything, i can't find anything loose?

i was thinking maybe also throw out or mainshaft bearing?

not trying to thread jack, just thought that possibly we had the same issue.

Nah, it's all good. I am wondering the same thing. Moreover, what might have cause it? And would this need immediately attention to the timing belt service? What would happen if I leave it alone? Sorry, a lot of questions but $1500 is a lot of dough...

Nada, the shop won't reply my PM about the job... I wonder if there is actually a problem now. This is uncool.
