Since I am sort of new to the WRX n00b qu3sti0n (have had mine for 1 year) If I remove the heat shield surounding the turbo what would it effect, what would/ will it damage. there are two sicolone(SP) hoses running along side the heat shield (about 1.5 inches away) one looks like it is for the power stearing pump and the other one has a aluminum sheild around it.
Not sure if is going to be the same answer as for a Honda (TAKE IT OFF) or leave it on.

Leave it on. The heat shield is shielding the intercooler from heat given off by the turbo. Removing the heat shield will likely contribute to heat soaking the intercooler. Even if it doesn't, there is no benefit to removing it.

It's not a horrible thing. I would buy a heat shield though. You can get a speed monkey heat shield that seems to be very nice. Some of the other SRIC guys have run them.
