Yes you can.
They will work.
You can run them WITH or WITHOUT hooking up the AVCS.
If you choose not to hook it up, your car will loose bottom end but gain gobs of top end.
If you choose to hook it up, you will need a JDM ECU and add some wires (Left and right AVCS cam sensors, L/R AVCS selenoids).
---
There are few diff AVCS heads available in Japan.
1. STi AVCS
2. STi Spec C AVCS
3. Non-STi AVCS
All of the above are far better heads than the US ones. AVCS/cams and valves aside. The casting is slightly different. The ports are a lot larger and designed better for improved flow. Also, both utilize "shim under bucket" for improved valvetrain performance. If you plan to high rev your EJ20, thats a must.
Then, there is a diff between the STi and Non-STi heads. The valve material. STi has hollow intake valves and sodium filled exhast valves which the non-STi does not. Also, the exhaust valves on STi heads are ~ .5mm larger.
Then all 3 have different cams. The most agressive are the Spec C cams. They are "spicy" but provide great idle even with AVCS disabled.
---
For myself, I got non-STi AVCS heads. Stuffed it with Spec C cams and buckets and custom dual rate springs and Ti retainers. Overall, the best bang for the buck if you want a crazy head.
My car revs to 9500 like a champ. Sounds like an airplane when it hits 8300RPM.

Imprezer, thanks for posting all the info, I have been looking for the same specs. Your motor sounds absolutely wicked. Do you happen to have the valve timing for the Spec C cams? Thanks again for the awesome info.

I am interested in these heads also. What is the cost? Is the stock head the only thing preventing higher redline. Will the pistons fly off the rods or anything catastrophic like that? The first time I drove a wrx, the only thing I could think was this would be even better with 1k extra rev range, and that the 1-2 shift sucks.
Hmm, 9k rpm, awd and boost.
BTW, while on the subject, has anyone modified the stock valvetrain for higher rev limit. I have only had my wrx 2 weeks as of today, so I am still learning what makes it tick.

Who says that a higher rev limit is goin to make u go faster? Powerpeaks then starts to drop off.
