Gutted everything and stock muffler - How's it sound?
Has anyone gutted all 3 cats in a stock exhaust but kept the factory resonator and muffler? Or gutted up and down pipes with a 3rd cat eliminator w/ stock muffler. What's it sound like?
I love the deep throaty boxer rumble but can't yet swing the $$$ for an aftermarket exhaust.

Yes. Im currently running a stock catback along with my Vishnu uppipe and ERZ downpipe, all cat-less. I've had people ask if I've got a full exhaust on there, but just like VIBEELEVEN said, it's really not that loud, just alittle deeper. I'm definately replacing my stock catback simply to free up the exhaust gasses.

I'm about to do this same thing on saturday...sounds about right but I have the STi catback from a friend's '04 STi.
The '04 STi made the idle to 1K RPM burble much more pronounced so I hope to get a tad bit more sound from this mod...obviously I'm doing this more for the power though.

OK now WITH an UP and DP installed (all catless) I am hearing a DEFINITE turbo spool so loud that it overpowers the actual exhaust sound until about 4K RPM!
That's right 4K
at idle it is audibly louder with a nicer burble to it. Pretty cool I think.

If you want cheap boxer sound and don't mind being on the loud side, you can go straightpipe from axleback, no need to butcher your cats or your muffler. But this will be a bit loud, but it sounds oh so good...
I actually have one that looks nice and I can sell if you like. (I loved the sound, but I'm too old to handle it!) Just unbolt your muffler and drive around for a bit, see if you like it first.
