Greddy Evo II vs. Espelir JGT500 exhaust systems
i'm in the market for a new exhaust and don't want anything overwhelming so i looked into the greddy but then saw the espelir. the greddy stays pretty quiet from what i've read even without cats but the espelir tends to get loud a lot say. i was just looking for some opinions on which system to get? thanks in advance
It depends on what you want. I wanted the Greddy EVO because it was quiet, but they were backordered so I picked up the Apex GT. I probably would have gotten the Greddy if I was still looking for an exhaust, but since I use the silencer on the GT, it's not all bad. You'd probably make more power with the Espelir. Wait 'til Choku Dori gets to this thread, he's better at explaining things.

i was going to with the espelir because the greddy wasn't full stainless steel and i live in chicago, but then i found out they came out with the evoII, so that's what's making my decision so hard. the espelir was rated as a quieter exhaust but just a tad louder than the greddy and not as loud as the HKS. man this sucks i just don't want to regret what i get then have to spend more money getting the other.
over the summer i will probably put in the helix up/down pipes and a lot say that the espelir then gets really loud while the greddy still stays pretty quiet. that's the only thing that's making me lean towards the greddy. anyone have a catless setup with an espelir??

actually from what I've heard, the espelir is about as loud as the hks hi power with cats on. With cats off it's as loud as the hks hi power (maybe a tad louder) without cats.
As far as I know they don't even have the greddy evo2 out yet for the wrx (been delayed I think).

Damn, everyone's beat me to this post. Pretty much everything said here has been accurate.
In summary: Espelir JGTC is not quiet nor is it designed to be quiet (according to what I read on the Espelir homepage; I still have yet to hear it in person). Greddy Evo is quiet and makes good power, but is pretty heavy (that's why it's so quiet -- all that muffling comes at a price you know).
The choice is yours, to be honest. Are you particularly sensitive to loud exhausts? Also, do the catback first like VRWRX says.

no i'm not but i do a lot of highway driving for work and i just don't want that noise that gets annoying on the highway after 10 mins. so if the espelir is good with cruising speeds i'll lean towards that but otherwise i might have to go with the greddy

since you're going up/dp, go with the greddy. The espelir would be loud (like the hks hi power without cats).
Espelir JGT500 is easy to install..... but it is extreamly loud, Just installed it on friends car, and his car is lounder then my catless stage 2 wrx.... and all hes got is a catback.... just to show how loud it is

I heard it in person a while ago myself, and indeed it is loud!
It is loud because of its N1 design. The inherent design of N1-style exhausts is that they are lightweight and free-flowing, but often very loud. That's why most of them come with a silencer piece. If you notice more "traditional" style exhausts with larger mufflers, they are much softer and need no external silencer. In the past, these sorts of exhausts put out less power than N1 style exhausts, however, in recent years many manufacturers have been able to increase flow and therefore power in their quieter units. The only drawback is that they are still heavier than N1 style exhausts.
Examples of N1 exhausts: Espelir JGTC500, HKS HiPower, Blitz Nur-Spec, Apex'i GT-Spec, Aepx'i N1 (duh
), Fujitsubo RM01A, Fujitsubo Power Getter, Kakimoto GT1.0Z, Kakimoto N1 (duh again
), etc.
Examples of "traditional" or sports exhausts: HKS Super Drager, HKS HiPower Silent, Blitz Nur-Spec Touring, Apex'i World Sport, Kakimoto Street Spec (duh three times), Greddy Evo, Borla Hush, etc.
