Greddy EGT + Boost gauge
Greddy EGT + Boost gauge
I did a search but didn't come up with much.
Anyone have any experience installing these? I planned on putting the probe for the EGT on the leanest cylinder plenum, but it doesn't look like there's any good way to keep the probe in and prevent it from falling out.
Also, is it ok to just start with a small drill bit with the engine running to push out the shavings and then slowly work up to a 1/8 bit?
What hose did you hook the vacuum line up to for the boost gauge?

its only going to go into the fins of the turbo and f*** things up.
a few people told me to put it on the up-pipe. some people told me to put it on the downpipe
personally i just ended up putting it on the downpipe. a few degrees isnt really going to make a difference. BUT... if you put it on just cylin 3 it dont make sense. your only getting readings from 1, what happens when 1 cylinder blows? i dunno
i put it on the downpipe, after my a/f and i havent had a problem with it. but then again... i dont really know whats the temp reading supposed to be.
someone help me on this?
atomi- I think the reasoning behind putting it into the leanest cylinder is to have the lowest possible a/f that any of the cylinder's are running. So you know the worst a/f in comparison to the rest of the cylinders.
I have heard of people putting in the uppipe, but not the downpipe. Uppipe is a little cooler and kind of takes the average of all four so you never really know how lean your engine is, correct??
Something I was wondering was, how to get the egt probe to stay in place. Is some type of pipe clamp needed?

Never mind, whatever I decide to mount this in needs to be drilled AND tapped unfortunately. So if anyone wants to comment on the pro's and con's of whether or not to put this in the #3 manifold pipe or other area, please let me know.

I put mine on the drivers side manifold just past the Y so that I get exhaust from both. I did the drivers side becuase I was not installing anything else at the time. If you try the passenger side you have to remove turbo, up pipe, down pipe, manifold, intercooler. If you do the drivers side you can get right at it rather easily.
For my boost guage I tapped the line for the fuel pressure regulator that is on the front of the intercooler. If you look on scoobymods.com I believe they have a "how to" for this.

I hooked up the boost gauge to the T where most people do the 3/16's mod. My boost isn't going over .5 bar though and it doesn't seem to be steady at all.
I thought the BOV was coming off the front of the intercooler and wasn't a good place to hook up the boost gauge?

The BOV location is where the manual tells you to put it. It reads right off the intake manifold I believe.
As for EGT location, you want Cylinder 3. That is passenger side rear most cylinder. That is the last cylinder in the fuel rail. Of course if you got a upgrade fuel rail, putting it in the uppipe or in the collector it would be just fine too. Really though even if it's at the collector of cylinder 3/4 it'll be fine and you'll get some pretty good readings. If you look at the manifold you'll see a little button or raised section that is perfect for drilling and tapping.

..You should run your boost gauge off of the vacume line that comes off of your intake manifold! I will try to find a picture of the place I am talking about!
Okay here ya go:
This is the vacume line to tap in for a accurate boost reading, looking at the car from standing in front of the car the line is going to be coming out of the left the intake plentum.
:Edit: Picture is not stock, pic is after boost line is tapped!

There is virtually no difference in putting it there or putting it at the BOV location, or even near the fuel pressure regulator. But FYI the subaru manual says BOV.
