Going into Safe Mode
I have been having this issue where my car, (02 WRX, had since new) keeps going into safe mode lately when just crusing. I go to downshift to pass someone and I only get 8 psi or so instead of the ususal 16.5-17. A quick reset from the Accessport and I'm back in business. Background, I have a Vishnu Uppipe, Invidia catless downpipe with a Hush exhaust. Stock intake with a K&N and the silencer removed with the stock IC. I have reflashed with the California Stage 2 Cobb map. Car ran fine until the weather started getting hot. I thought it was bad gas at first. I switched to a different station and the problem went away but, did the hot weather. Then it came back last week. I switched stations again and the problem went away again but, today, while just crusing to work this morning, the problem came back. The car has 96k miles on it. Fresh plugs, NGK coppers one step colder put in about 2000 miles ago. Fresh oil, nothing but redline 10W40 since new. I haven't cleaned the mass air but, I doubt that will make much of a difference. I was thinking maybe my fuel pump was going out but, when ever that has happened in the past, on a different car, it goes out completely not incrimentaly. Although that did happen to me once on another car.
The fuel filter was changed about 8k miles ago. I'm stumped. Is the Cali Stage 2 map that aggressive? I always thought that it was slightly conservative to account for different configurations.
Anyways, if nothing else helps, I guess I'll go in for a protune. I was going to wait till I put a bigger turbo before I did that but, if I have to do that now to get my car running right then I guess I will.
Any suggestions on what I should check next?
Thanks,
Bill
