going into first when car is rolling (5km/h)
I noticed my car won't allow me to switch into first when I'm going really slow. It has to be pretty much at a dead stop before it will allow me to. Is this common with all subaru's or what?
Also, my second gear sounds a little funny. Doesn't do it all the time. Just when it feels like it. It makes more of a high pitched noise. Hard to explain. Definately not quite like the rest. Assistance please!
thanks
Justin

First gear does get a little stubborn sometimes. I only put it into first when I am completely stopped. If you get a short shifter it may get a little more stubborn.
So, YES. This is very common.

so messed up! when I"m approaching a red light and it turns green, it stays in second and there is nothing i can do. how does everyone accomodate this? I'm a new stick driver so tips would be helpful. I find clutching in to the friction point and applying more gas normally gets the car moving. but other then that, i'm kinda stumped

try double clutching and a tiny rev to help it get into first. i find when my tranny is cold it doesn't like going into 1st either; in fact it grinds when it's cold and i put it into 1st. after a while when everything's warmed up it will shift into 1st like a champ at slow speeds.

Rev-matching works, too. Usually what I do if I'm rolling to a stoplight that might change, is let the clutch out in 2nd gear and engine brake for a second, then it pops right into 1st. This works at 20+ mph for me on my WRX.
