gauges? what size? which one? how many?

hi i was interested in purchasing a boost gauge. but after reading a couple posts, it seems that everyone who has a boost gauge also has a egt. Can someone please explain why both are preferred, and can someone tell me which one is best for the buck. also, what size do most people have on the a-pillar? and is the install hard? Thanks

Most people install a boost gauge, EGT, and a third gauge, usually oil pressure or oil temp. The gauges help to monitor the condition of the car and are helpful for a modified car. It's personal preference what size gauges you want. I personally have 60mm gauges in a Defi center pod. The boost gauge and oil pressure gauges are pretty easy. The EGT requires removal of the exhaust manifold in order to drill and tap a hole for the sensor.

I like small gauges for a few reasons. (I have three 45mm gauges).

- once you get used to a gauge you generally don't have to actually see the number, you can instantly tell the reading by the position of the needle. Big or small gauge, angles are angles.

- small gauges generally cost less

- small gauges are less likely to get stolen

- small gauges fit in the stock pod or in a 1 DIN faceplate.

- personally, I think its a cleaner look.

I agree with what you say, except I prefer 52mm guages. They still fit in a 1 DIN face, aren't ricer-sized, and are easier to read.

I know there was quite a bit of fit/finish controversy with the Autometer 2 guage cluster bezel, but I really like mine.
It is for 2 1/16"(52mm) guages, of which I have SportComp EGT, and boost.

I have the Defi's and i love em. The ability to recall peak readings makes checking up on the car a lot easier after a race or tuning session.

I can get you Omoris, and alex can get you Defis. Autozone and Kragen have Autometers if you want those.

I just got my EGT. I have a stock boost gauge and an A/F gauge. I have a spot for one more, I am thinking of Oil Pressure
