My mileage is continually getting better. I guess the car is just loosening up a lot. My best is 350 miles on one tank, and the low gas light wasn't even on yet. I've got about 16,500 miles on her.

i usually hit the 280 mark at aroudn the time my gas light comes on. i've taken it to 300 per tank once, but i was trying to stay in vaccuum most of the time (experiment)... when that was all said and done i was only getting about 22 mpg. I drive a lot of street/traffic or frwy/Los Angeles gridlock traffic. I have been able to get 320+ once, but that was because in addition to my normal driving, I took a trip down to Oceanside from Irvine.
I was hoping for better mpg, something around the 25+mpg... but ... i suppose 20mpg is better than my previous 15mpg.
I have a stock 03 wrx wagon manual with 12,XXX miles.

i have an 02 rs, and all i get is about 250 to a tank, but it is empty, the guage on e, but i fill it up, and it is always like 12gallons. on the open highway like long trips i can get like 315, with the air on, and doing like 90 all the way, i figuered a wrx would get better gas mileg then my rs, but they seem to be about the same.
I had a 99 Trans Am with a manual 6 speed that got 16-18 in the city and 27 on the freeway. My WRX is getting 21 avg. in the city and just under 27 freeway. I'm just past the breakin period so I'm hoping for some improvement over time.
I'm stock also... and I get the 200-250 miles per tank.
I just filled up with $22.85 worth @ $1.68 a gallon and that was at 240 miles which it was empty.
So lets see... $22.85/1.68 =13.601 gallons.
240/13.601= 17.64 MPG
... yeah that's pretty much crap.
I only have 2100 miles on the car though, So it better get higher than that by 10,000 miles. Or its going to the trade in block for 8 cylinders to supercharge.

I think a lot of people are using different methods to determine their gas mileage so let me explain the method I've always used (because it's pretty damn acurate)
1.) fill up your tank
2.) Reset your trip meter before starting your car to leave the gas station.
3.) drive around until you need gas again
4.) fill up your tank and write down the mileage on the trip meter and the gallons pumped by the gas pump.
5.) [trip meter]/[the pumps fuel meter] = mpg
6.) reset your trip meter again so you can keep calculating your mpg
it's important to use exact numbers too because slight "rounding" of the numbers can effect the gas mileage up to 5MPG!
