A turbo back will replace everything from the turbo on back. Which include the downpipe and catback. A catback will only replace the portion from the third cat, on back. There's quite a few choises on turbo backs and if price is not a concern you might want to consider getting the Vishnu Signature Series turbo back, which I hear is one of the best. The Cobb TB is also another great choise. A turbo back should be a little louder than a cat back as the TB seem to only keep one cat, one high flowing cat that is. Hope this helped.

A lof people go with a cat back first and then add the dowpipe. That is what makes a turbo back, both a downpipe and a catback. And catbacks tend to get louder with an aftermarket dp due to the added airflow, since most of the dp eliminate one or both of the cats. Do a few searches and you will get all the info that you need.

Here is a diagram that shows the wrx intake and exhaust https://www.i-club.com/forums/attach...chmentid=26009. Eljefe is correct but some DP's dont come with the mid pipe and some do so if you buy a DP that doesnt come with the midpipe you would need the downpipe, midpipe and the cat back to have a TBE. I only have a catback right now but when I save up the $ I will buy a Cobb or Vishnu DP which will complete my TBE.

Some places can't pass inspection with a turbo back too You eliminate the main cat that's visible under the car.

I would suggest waiting, and piecing together your exhaust yourself. Buy a catback and then buy a downpipe that has charachteristics that you like. Do a lot of research at Subarureview.com and here in the review section before you go and spend money on something you might not like. Cheers and good luck

If you are talking about this http://www.horsepowerfreak.com/KAKI_EXHA.asp you are looking at a cat back and since this is a JDM part it would only work with a JDM downpipe like a Cusco because of the length difference. Click on this link to Cobb scroll down and you will see an example of a cat back, downpipe (that includes the mid pipe) and both together which makes a turbo back http://cobbtuning.com/wrx/power-i.html#catback. You say you are wanting to get the best times possible at the track but you havent told us your budget. Your future plans for the car have a lot to do with what DP you should go with. If you plan on running a bigger turbo in the future you would be best off going with a DP that has a divorced wastegate design like this http://www.vishnutuning.com/images/p...lose%20up2.jpg but if you plan on keeping the stock turbo you could go with a bellmouth like Cobbs or Helix. You will run better times with a turbo back.

Also, getting a TBE from teh same company is better than piecing together your exhaust IMO.

I can't believe how great the responses are int he tech forums. This place is awesome.
