Exhaust sound
Hey all, recently just had a TurboXS turbo back installed onto my 04 wrx. Now the thing does sound a lot cooler and the butt dyno reports nice gains, but I also have a newer high pitched noise. Reading through the forums some say leak, and some say turbo, but few give a lot of definition to the sound. So here it is.
At idle, makes a nice deep sound with no high noise. When accelerating the noise is greatest around 2500-3500. From idle to 2500 sound is noticable and after 3500 the car starts to rock so can't really hear it anymore. Also is much more apparent when actually driving, not just reving it up. Opinions?

I just put the turboback exhaust on my 02 and that noise you are descibing is exactaly what i am hearing. I put back up on the hoist to check and see if that noise was the turbo or if it is a leak and it is definatly the turbo. I think it sounds awsome all my friends thought that was the coolest part. That and my blow off valve : )

what you are hearing is proabbly the turbo spooling but to be on the safe side, have a friend rev the car while you look under to hear if there is an exhaust leak .
If you hear a whistling sound around 3000 and you kind of hold the throttle, say like giving it 10-20% and it makes the noise that you are describing, thats the turbo for sure. I love that sound 
I've got the turboxs stealthback w/ prodrive muffler and i noticed the very same thing. I checked it again just to be sure, but it's definitely the turbo. Don't you love that sound?

Wow that's good to hear, I've been having that sound happening and thought that it could of been an exhaust leak. I like that sound too, I can't wait to get my bov so that I can have more cool sounds lol:banana:
