An up pipe and down pipe will more than likely void your warranty. An up pipe will definitely increase hp and spool up time. It also will help prolong your turbo life. A down pipe will also increase hp. If you're worried about the cel, helix up pipes and down pipes come with a cel fix. Not really sure what will give you the loudest sound, maybe someone here can help you out with that. Anyways, if I was to choose between an up pipe or down pipe, i would go with an up pipe. But thats just my personal preference.

Hm i just bought the Helix Up/down pipe combo w/ the cel fix a lil while ago and have a HKS Hiper cat back. It sounds really good. Really brings out the rumble of the suby boxer motor. Fit perfect no problems. About the warranty thats something your gonna have to find out at your dealership.

i have a pde up and down pipe............the down pipe has never thrown a cel because of its design......as far as the up pipe all you have to do is put a resistor on the end that goes back to the ecu i cant remember the specs. on the resistor but you can do a search here and find it. its cheaper to buy the resistor it will cost you less than a dollar at radio shack compared to buying some companies no cel fix for roughly about 20 to 80 dollars...hope this helps

I have a ESX PDE Up Pipe, and it's working grate, gives quicker turbo spool up, and increased power in low and mid range, the install is about 2 hours, but it's worh it. the PDE Up Pipe is a good buy.

When you ask the dealer about the upipe install dont tell them you want to do it to make the car faster, tell them you are worried that a piece of the upipe cat could break off and trash your turbo. Here is a thread you can print and show them https://www.i-club.com/forums/engine-power-ej20t-pre-2006-wrx-jdm-60/factory-up-pipe-destroyed-my-turbo-74750/. The dealer might be a little more understanding if you went with the STI upipe since it is a subaru part (thats what I have). $252 is the cheapest I've seen a STI upipe for and you can find it here http://www.subaruxtras.com/SearchRes...ds=STI%20upipe. This place takes subarubucks and its listed under STI parts on page 12.

BTW the upipe isnt going to make your exhaust louder and it wont cause your car to fail the sniffer unless they do a cold start emissions test. A catback will not make you fail emissions either.

Good luck.

well if i were you i would consider the cobb downpipe and uppipe over the helix for sure i work at a subary performance shop and the only to parts that are on my car are APS and Cobb becuase of there extreme quality fit and finish . worth every penny in my opinion. i dont doubt that the helix downpipe is a good value for the money but i would check out the cobb one at our website www.finelineimports.net if you have any more questions you can email me at Ryan@finelineimports.net

Only a couple of problems with this solution.

1. Cobb is ALWAYS at least several months on backorder.
2. I'm not sure that I'd go to a performance shop who can't spell "Subaru" (subary?), doesn't capitalize "I", and in general looks like their grammar is on about the third grade level. Run on sentences, and improper usage of the English language would put my opinion on the attention to detail and professionalism into question.
3. Last time I tried dealing with FLI, I spent more time trying to track someone down (answering machine with no one following up or calling back) than I spent driving down there. Mind you, I was thankful that Miles was nice enough to cancel my AccessPORT order, since he couldn't source one for two months after they came out, and I sourced one and had it the next day.
4. Steve (your technician) seemed to be the only one who knew about the Subaru platform, but then he seemed to ignore the OWNER of the Forester that we intended to modify. Some women are quite knowledgeable about their vehicles, and deserve to be respected for their interest and knowledge.

On the positive side, your importing and converting JDM vehicles is admirable. The vehicles that I did see in the times that I visited the house/garage looked like they were being treated to a nice overhaul. Steve looks like he enjoys what he does, and does his part of the job very well.

Good luck in your business.

I heard Cobb was in the proscess of developing an upipe but I didnt think it was out yet. I also saw another post of yours and you claimed to have Cobb stage 3 which is another thing that I thought wasnt out yet. If you do have Cobb stage 3 and info on a Cobb's upipe please us give some details on the design of the upipe (flex or no flex, ID) and what is needed to run stage 3.

From Cobb's website.

Stage 3 Power Package (335-350 HP)

Currently under development, our Stage 3 power package will be best suited or those that are looking for maximum reliable street performance without requiring one of our specially built engines.

We plan on releasing this system in the Fall, 2004.

They claim to release stage 3 this fall and its about that time. Can't wait.

BTW I have never heard of anyone that wasn't happy with their Helix upipe so I wouldnt think Cobb's would be that much better.

well ya some time cobbs stuff is on back order for a bit no doubt about that. depends on what you want when you want it. second of all sorry about the bad grammer but when you are working 10 hour days for the last week im sure your grammer might not be the best. as far as miles and steve they both know the subaru platform very very well. i dont think that the bords is a nice place for personal attacks but that is just me. maybe you should come check out our new 2500 sq foot shop its real nice. as far as the stage 3 goes cobbs will have different parts then mine. i run a aps front mount he spun me off a map that has the same set up. so its a setup that will be like the stage 3 from him. Im sure the helix down pipe is good quality. the cobb is jsut a another thing to consider. I dont know when the cobb stage 3 will be out some other people on the bords are thinking january but i do not know when it will be out. Im looking foward to when they give us the ablity to make our own maps for the access port that will come in handy.
