Down Pipes
Alright I have tried to do many searches about this but to find no proven facts. What manufactor sells the BEST, highest flowing, less turbulance after the turbo, and has dyno #s for HP gains. Also it will have to bolt-up(compliment my HKS Carbon-Ti catback. Oh price does not matter, I don't want any CEL light - cat-less.
I am leaning toward either the Cusco or Perrin Downpipe but I can't find any info on what kind of power they can produce or handle-flow... The plan is to run a PE1820F turbo. Will the Cusco or Perrin handle that?

Check out the recent turbo magazine they do a comparison of turbo back exhausts on the dyno. as for me i prefer the turbo xs down pipe its a 4 in tapered into a 3 in. turbo xs also makes a catback adaptor which replaces the 3rd cat. as for the check engine light it will come on. check out evailmotorsports.com they have a o2 sensor fix for the cel.
good luck

Yeah I checked out the turbo mag turbo-back comparison. But they didn't have anything on PDE, Perrin or Cusco.
Is there any possible way with out custom fab. To make the Turbo XS Downpipe fit up to the HKS cat-back systems? Because I know the Turbo XS DP is short and ya need to the mid pipe + cat or test pipe to connect the axle back....
After doing more research I think Im gonna go with Perrin.. Will I get CELs?

Hey peeps,
I also had questions on downpipes and didnt want to start another thread on this topic cause it seems to be everywhere now. Anyways Im also thinkin of getting modding up my exaust with a perrrin downpipe catted, but also wanted to do some research first. Does anyone know if invidias bell shaped pipes are less turbulent or better then the splitted ones that perrin has? Coming from an engineers viewpoint the split one would be less turbulant, but im just a college student not a qualified engineer. Also im planning to keep my oem muffler, axle back.....should i replace everything or will the downpipe be sufficeint gain? Or should i just replace from the cat back. I think i will prob get more gain from the downpipe replacement (gets rid of a resricting cat) but again i dont have any creditials to back up my word. Reasons for keeping the muffler: seen the db rating on some of the cat back exausts....too ****ing loud, have a feeling it will sound ricey, and not throughty like it does stock. If anyone wished to dissagree please do, maybe youll convince me to save up.
Peace in the Middle East -Johnny

they list a PDE downpipe (more expensive than perrin, etc.) but "Has been tested and you will not get a CEL with this downpipe!" (quoted from their site) it will mate to most aftermarket catback systems. good luck.

Souper,
My 02. on aftermarket downpipes.
I dont think the H.P difference varies by enough to worry about.
Just go with the ones that have a good rep.
As far as Catted, I choose Perrin because of their reputation.
I was a bit disapointed as the mounting flange was distorted from welding (slight warp) but it bolted up fine and so far no leaks
I can hear my Turbo Spool MUCH better than Stock and it DEFINETLY comes on power by around 500 revs sooner.
Very sweet, ...............But $$$$$$

Why Catted?
Just wondering, why do you want to go catted? If it is cause of CEL lights then there is a cel fix you can get for about $20 bucks. I just got it but haven't put it in yet. I know you said money doesn't matter but there are many more choices without cats than with and they are, for the most part, much more inexpensive. I just got a Bosal DP (I like the divorced wastgate design) but I have also heard many good things about the invidia DP. I am kind of debating whether I made the right choice now. Anyway, if I were you I would get a catless DP and the resistor CEL fix for $20 and spend the rest of the money on some other mods or add it to the bigger turbo fund. My two cents...
Good Luck,
Ron

Well I don't wanna get a catted exhaust. But if that is the only I won't get a CEL then yes I will... If I get the Perrin Cat-less downpipe + uppipe and with the HKS Ti exhaust I already have all 3 cats will be gone... How bad would that be for the environment? Im no tree huggin hippy but I still care my health and others

With most downpipes such as the invidia, bosal, perrin, etc, you will retain the factory third Cat. The HKS downpipe is the only one I can think of off hand that eliminates both of the post turbo cats. I am actually trying to find a high flow mid pipe/third cat pipe myself. So, to answer you question if you get most catless downpipes you will get a CEL unless you get the CEL eliminator fix but you will still retain the third cat and be still somewhat environmentally friendly.
Hope this helps,
Ron

Thanks for the info shotgun. Will check out what scooby sports has to offer. Ive got another question for you guys. What is the best way to get gains from an exaust system, and still keep one cat (for the purpose of emissions), neglecting the cat in the uppipe. Just get a turbo back? or should i try to find each individual pipe? What pipe whould be best for the cat? would it not be restricting to keep the oem midpipe (if possible, need to crawl under the car and check) and replace the dp and axle back?
