Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Do I need a header?

IMHO, Headers make the biggest difference if you have an upgraded turbo. Equal length headers will make the most difference but the Maxim works headers (equal length) are $1500! OMG, it's just pipe!...I really want a set of equal length headers

For the $600 I spent on a lesser brand, the gains were felt throughout the RPM range and turbo spoolup is a tad quicker. But did my track times improve? No. However, this was on a stock turbo. Perhaps if I had something like a VF22, or a PE, or a Garrett; who knows.

i would go with the cheaper brand as they are identical to more expensive brands and they come with the up pipe.

half price = same power gains.

FYI - all headers ARE NOT created equal..some are, some aren't. There are good sub $1000 units, and others that are pure and utter junk...do your research carefully. Same goes for over $1000 units..some are better than others in terms of qualty, etc.

What mods do you ahve that warrant a header upgrade? or what do you ahve planned? Reason I ask is thatnot everyones setup warrants the investment though many do)...with such a big purchase price, you want to make sure its worth it to you and your car's goals

I agree...leave the headers alone...you would be FAR better off ditching the SAFC and going with a Utec for around the same price tag. You could port your stock manifold, but only if you are also willing to do the up-pipe, turbo as well..otherwise just wrap it as Notorious said...well worth the effort

Is that means MAXIM stainless is no better than stock, since they don't retain the heat as good as stock....how about wrapping it?
