Coil and injector questions
Coil and injector questions
I've been searching but haven't found anything on how to check the ignition coils and injectors. In a rotor based spark systems you can pull the wire and connect a plug to it to see if it fires. can you do that with a coil? also, how do you do a function test on a fuel injector.
hey Snicker ,
I am not 100% positive but on most injected engines you can run what is refered to as a "buzz" test I am a diesel mech & on the bigger diesel engines this is how we check for the injector selonid for proper operation you can check all 6 or indavidual. As I said I am not totaly sure this is donr with a scanner tool you plug into the obd 1 0r obd 2 depeding on the year 96 & up or newer is obd2 95 & older is obd1 or "generic" which is located under the stering colum & to the left
As for checking your spark yes you can connect a plug to it..You can instead of cranking it over just take a small pick or screwdriver and "snap" the points with the key on or 12v supplied to the distributor when you "snap" the points this is what gives the signal for your coil to discharge in some cases your points are either dirty or oout of spec & wont "fire" this should get you some signal to ytour coil
After rereading your post its not quite clear whatyou are asking about the spark if you dont have a distributor then you have a cam or a crank shaft triger sensor that triggers your coil pack to fire and thus I dont know how to fool it into firing a false spark
Hope this all helps you some what
Jay
