Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Hi there,

[snip]... As for porting and polishing the factory turbo, it shouldn't make much of a difference if done well. If done improperly (which is more common from what I've seen), performance will be compromised for good. It is my opinion that you leave the factory turbo untouched
Could you please explain more about what you've seen regarding the P&P? There are people who get their turbos reworked, so that they can eliminate boost creep. Are you saying this was not done correctly, or that it doesn't make any difference, or that it made things worse?

All of the above. About the only thing I would ever consider doing to a turbo is extrude honing the exhaust housing. Nothing else. No porting, polishing, etc,. No mods to the compressor side. Most of the turbos that I've tested with ported wastegate housings usually leak (don't seal properly). This is caused by human error which, unfortunately, is pretty common.

Just my experience though...
