Cobb VF34 reflash
Well, I was thinking about going the VF34 route, but after seeing the numbers Cobb posts on it's site, I'm reconsidering....
I currently have a Cobb stage 2 and according to their site, it's supposed to be good for 285 HP and 285 FT/LBS of torque. But, the VF 34 setup is only good for 315 and 295...WTF?!? I'm definitely not spending $1300 for all the equipment and only getting 30/10. Especially since this is crank HP. Since the conversion factor is always a percent due to drivetrain losses, actual gain in WHP will probably be on the order of 20. Not quite what I was expecting to say the least.
Main problem is this post.

This is the exact package Cobb lists as requirements for their VF-34 package with the exception of the FMIC. Now I realize the intercooler is ALOT bigger than stock, but I hardly believe it can make that much difference. Can anyone else shed some light on this?
Thanks
Derck

I'm making the move from stage 2 to the vf34 map very soon. This is sitting right next to me.

After much conversation with Cobb, the current VF34 map is very conservative and is not intended to even approach the limits of the setup. I was concerned about safety and they said over and over that it's a safe map and stage 3 will really take advantage of the fuel and turbo. Also it's much easier for me to spend about a grand at a time, than do the huge IC/turbo/inj./FP/etc all at once for $2-3000.
It's sort of a "stage 2.5" on the way to their stage 3 (when their intercooler comes out in the spring). I'll definitely be posting a detailed review as soon as I get it installed.
Oh and don't forget, it's target boost is 16.5, tapering to 14.5 at redline, so we're talking area under the curve gains...peak numbers mean nothing when judging things like this.

Pretty....
Yeah, I know they say it's a "safe" tune, but man, for the money and the work involved, it hardly seems to be worth it.
So, did they say when the stage 3 comes out it is going to be a lot more aggressive? Also, will the new IC be needed? I'm like you. I'd love to be able to spend $3000 a pop, but really can't justify it. What I'd really like to see is a more aggressive tune with the current list.
Oh well, I can wait, but I'd like it to be everything I want in one shot.
I sure wish they'd put up a dyno curve. This might show a BIG ol fat curve, but no way to tell.
Thanks

Yeah, for at least one pass
The biggest thing that I think kinda sux is the fact that the dude with the FMIC got 300WHP...I'm not sure what most use as a drivetrain loss for us, but even at 20%, you get 375 crank HP. I don't think simply going to a different IC should give you that kind of boost. I guess the point I'm getting to is they already have a program that is good to use. They always tune to safe levels, not to the ragged edge, so why not just use this program as the base for the VF-34?
Oh well, the ACCESS is only a $160 upgrade anyway...I'm sure better maps will be forthcoming and I'll probably be getting the bigger IC sometime with the rest of the package.
