Question Check engine light question/downpipe

So I got my megan racing downpipe yesterday in the mail, however, i haven't put it in yet. Why? Because I have a few questions & concerns before i make any actions.

1st. I discovered that putting my downpipe in, 2 cats have to be removed. The problem is, both those cats have the O2 sensor's on them.

and i know that IF i "had" an access port, i could tune the car and delete those lights, but i don't have one yet. it'll take me a good time to save up $695.

So here's the question, should i still go ahead and put the downpipe in, i'm really craving for a little louder sound, and a bit more power. My buddy that has an STI said that putting a downpipe with out an AP tune could misfire one of the pistons. Is this true?

If you were in my position, what would you do?

I never heard of misfire of a piston for doing that but okay. You could put it on if you want but maybe not boost it? I wouldn't but my friend has an 05 Wrx full turboback and using just a boost controller for like ever since ive known him and it still runs fine. My opinion i would just wait untill you get an Accessport you can always buy an unmarried used also to save you money. Also check the welds on the megan downpipe i ordered one and on one of the welds there was a small hole its like they completely forgot to finish it or something...just to let you know.

essentially all it does is pulls your rear o2 sensor out of direct exhaust flow, allowing it to take a cleaner(inaccurate reading).

It threads directly into the existing o2 sensor bung. very simple instal. and works well.

But should only be a temporary fix IMO.

+1 AP would be the better choice, the other just a temporary fix.

Doing it yourself is pretty easy and you get to know your car a bit better. It would be a lot easier if you had another person with you, but not too big of a deal. The hard part really is removing all of the nuts/ bolts from the heat shield.

Once the heat shield is removed everything is pretty straightforward. Make sure you get O2 socket sensor from auto parts store also. Ive changed my downpipe a few times and i found it easier to install/ uninstall with the intercooler off. It can be done with the intercooler on but i have big hands and its hard to get around the small engine compartment.

Or you could ignore what i just said and take it to GST or Speedelement and have them do it. I think they know a thing or two about cars as well. My .02 cents
