check engine light?
check engine light?
Ok, i am noob i guess, since i don't the exact engine, but i have 2005 STi, today the check engine light came on, and the 'cruise' light is flashing.
Any idea what this is? is this just an O2 sensor?
BTW what is the EJ20T,does that also cover the STi?
Thanks

Ok, so i went and checked the obvious, the oil and it was dead low, at least 2 quarts. So any of you notice the car 'burning' any oil as normal operation? I did an oil change a few months ago, but have not checked it since, so i was pretty suprised to see the oil this low.
Hmm I don't know much but I know that my WRX doesn't burn oil like that... I haven't change my oil since 4 months ago and I ran over 3K mile on it. and its still good. I think you should have someone check it out. OH and EJ20T is the WRX motor it doesn't cover sti. STi is EJ25T I believe. That is the forum below this one. ^.^ I hope that helps.
First thing if you have a check engine light than you have some code/s
stored in your ECU.If you can't check and see what the codes are yourself
take it to your mechanic or your local Subaru Dealership a.s.a.p.
That isn't normal your 05 STI could have a oil consumption problem witch
is not good.Keep taps on your engine oil levels by reading the dipstick.
Are you changing your engine oil on time? I change my engine oil with
Castrol syntec blend every 3 months or 3K miles whatever comes first.

Go to Autozone and borrow their OBDII scanner. Some AZ's require a deposit which is refunded when you bring the scanner back. Pull the code(s), and report back. You need to find out what CEL it's throwing, before you can start to diagnose the problem.

what johsti said about autozone is your best choice to begin with. I used to go there for any cels before I got my accessport, and I still take my moms car there when it throws a cel.
as for the oil, in a high performance car like an STi I'd suggest checking your oil more often and not going much more than the 3 month/3k miles rule. How many months does "a few months" translate to?
