i had a similar problem i had some loud noise coming from my bov after i put in a large topmount. the problem was that the flange for the BOV was warped (and yes i was
). so since it was warped there wasn't a perfect seal so i was leaking mad amounts of air.
did you check the bov to see if it's secure and tight? maybe an o-ring got pinched and it's not sealing properly also. good luck on finding your problem!
*OT ALERT!!!* BTW if you guys want to know what top mount i bought, it's a CSS performance top mount intercooler. the mounting brackets were off by about 1 inch so i had to fabricated a new mount. also the y-pipe eyeholes for the bolts didn't align with the holes on the intercooler it self so i had use a dremel to elongate the holes.
i had a really bad experience with this top mount and lost money also, so i switch to the sti intercooler. i'm not saying their company is bad im just letting you know my story.

Hey OP im the worst backyard mechanic you will ever meet so i could be wrong just my .02 cents. When I read your post this was my first instinct. Your BOV is opening when it shouldnt or somthing is causing it to open. So theres two people with the same opinion. Keep us posted let us know if you figure it out

If you like the sound of your BOV and would like to keep the sound but get rid of your problem and the part thats not the coolest thing to put on a subie. I have a K&N typhoon for sale. If you have limited mods and want that cool sound and a little performance gain. Sell your BOV and buy my intake...FS Cheep

blackbullet03 take off the BOV and reinstall the stock OEM BPV. Your car will be happy again and so will you. If you really have to have that "Psssh" sound, just roll down your window and make a Psssh sound with your mouth and call it a day.
Instead of hating and poking fun maybe someone with a bit more tech knowledge than me could explain to this young man why an atmospherice bov isnt a good idea on our beloved boxer. Ill give it a try though. From what I understand, the stock bypass dumps back into the intake tract. The atmospheric BOV dumps to atmosphere(hence the name). The bad part about that is that your MAF has already measured the air coming into your intake/turbo system and accounted for it and the ecu has metered out the proper amount of fuel for said amount of air that passed your maf. As we are all well aware (or at least should be) forced induction motors dont take kindly to screwing with the air/fule ratios without proper tuning. Hence the BOV is bad because it alters the A/F ratio by dumping air that your MAF has already accounted for.

dude i can't believe how nub people are in the subaru community. are you running a gasket on that bugga? plus you might want to note you need to add a few washers if you understand my dialect because that increases the sound pressure. i've had a hks bov and it was running louder than a turbo xs if your just going for sound. lol @ thread. good luck though.
