BOV will not help perfromance. In fact, performance may be decreased.

The ECU expects to see the air released to atmosphere from an aftermarket BOV so the car will run rich for a time after it actuates. The stock diverter doesn't release air to atmosphere.

the stock bov is more than enough for all your modding needs. it can hold up to 20 lbs of boost.

if you want the sound then go for the hks bov. its 100% atmospheric. there are 50/50 bov's. forge, and gfb sells them. they still give off the sound.

Your car already has such a valve. It's technically a "bypass" valve since it recirculates the released pressure back into the intake rather than "blows it off" like an aftermarket BOV which releases to the atmosphere.
The purpose of the valve is to release the pressure in the manifold when you release the throttle suddenly while under boost, this protects the turbo from backpressure which can cause the turbine to stall and ultimately damage it.
The only reason to replace the stock valve is to install one that makes noise. However as mentioned already any BOV that releases air to the atmosphere rather than recirculating as the stock one does will have a negative impact on performance. The air passing through the valve has already been metered by the MAF sensor and accounted for by the ECU, so if it is released to the atmosphere instead of back into the intake the engine will momentarily run rich.
If you are after performance save your $$ and keep the stock valve, unless you want the "bling" noise.

I beg to differ on the performance aspect of a BOV. You are going to improve throttle response and reduce the lag in btw. shifts...to me that is a ton of performance help!! I have one on my own WRX and I love it. By the way it is a GFB BOV.

I do have them for sale as well!!

The Stealth FX for GFB is one of the nicest BOV out there!! You can adjust the sound of it by the flix of your wrist and I have them in Blue, Silver, and Red if anyone is interested and all for $240 shipped!!

Super easy to install even with no skill. Should take you about 30-45 min!!

I just purchased an '03 Impreza WRX Sedan. And besides all the "nececities" of gauges and such, there is this, the BOV.

So in an over all estimate... what BOV is best for performance/sound? IF there are any that gives out both.

And to "save" your turbo, it would be best to purchase an aftermarket BOV, right?

Installation process of one is how easy? (If you could e-mail me a step by step process, or guide me with a link to a site that has information on all of that, that would be nice)

After hearing about the Stealth-FX for GFB, what's great? And what is the "50/50 forge" ?

Sorry for being so noobie, and I thank all who respond and start makin' me into a green =)

50/50 is a bov that vents half to the atmosphere (making the noise) and the other half back to the engine.

On which BOV is best for performance/sound, I have seen all of them that are out there and as for as quality and ease of being able to create what sound you want when you want it the GFB line of BOV's is one of the best out there!! Especially, their new Steatlh FX BOV!! No other BOV gives you the ability to turn the top to change the sound of the BOV whenever you want!!

And yes it does help to save your turbo be reducing the back pressure built up by the turbo. It also reduces the damage that might be caused when the fin of the turbo is slowed down by to much back pressure in other words it prevents turbine fin and shaft damage by quickly releasing excess boost pressure.

I can email you a detailed installation process if you like, but it does come with these instructions!! It is easy enough to install with very limited mechanical knowledge!!

And ScoobyBoy answered the 50/50 questions for you.
