congrats. Nice price on both the blow off valve and turbo timer considering it is installed. Just note that the blow off valve is only 2 bolts so it can be installed with 15 minutes.

By all means and go ahead n' shut off your motor after a couple of minutes of boost on the freeway. I'm sayin' it wouldn't hurt to have one.

On the contrary, I have done my homework. If you read this entire thread you would understand that (check out the links). I know what turbo timers are for and the fact that the modern turbo design found on the Subaru models do not require a "cool down procedure". This means they don't need a to be "idled" therefore a turbo timer is unnecessary.
And about the BOV I was just answering his question. Of course there are always going to be problems with items, manufacturers aren't all perfect. A BOV can't 'cause anything but maybe runnin' a little bit rich, but it can't 'cause a break in the motor.

btw, regarding BOV's, I know there are designs that work well with the WRX and others that have proven to be troublesome. The choice is not as simple as you make it out to be (if you read the many posts about them on these forums you would understand). Anyone who is thinking about the purchase of a BOV would be well advised to browse the various Subaru forums to get an idea of what works best on our cars.

I agree........it doesn't hurt to have one. I'm not debating that. My point is that there is no practical use for one in a WRX. It's a waste of money unless you're buying it for some of it's other features (or just as a novelty). As far as running my car hard ("after a couple of minutes of boost on the freeway".....using your example), you would see I covered this in my previous posts if you read through them.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about a few defective BOV's from a manufacturer's lot. I'm talking about specific models/makes that may not work well with the WRX (they cause problems up to and including possible mixture issues). If you read through the posts on these forums you will see that there are some models that folks have trouble with and others that receive rave reviews. I'm just suggesting that he do some searches before settling on a specific manufacturer's model.

.....in the long run a BOV is still just a "noise maker" that could "potentially" cause problems (depending on the type).

Try a search using the keywords "turboxs rfl", "txs rfl", "txs bov", or similar variations. You may want to also check out www.impreza.net. There are quite a few threads to wade through when you search but I think it's worth it if you're really considering this mod (or any mod for that matter). Personally, I think BOV's are worthless unless there's a necessity for them (~19+ boost).
