This is the same basic thread starting in Nasioc. Mr DJ is mixing words and not telling the whole story, so I really can't do or say anything to defend myself. So what I am doing is letting my customers speak for me. As you will see, it will all be sorted in due time.

Hey Guys

I will post my experience with Axis Power (Ronal Williams) motors so this will warm new and future users of their engine, I have heard several failures but Ron guarantee me at first place his work, but know I feel completely ripped off.

First I ordered a 2.5L short block last year for a WRX, so we were using wrx std heads, the block came in after 5 months or so do to several problems with rod supplier and sti blocks availability from factory, the initial ETA was gonna be 4 weeks.

I received the short block here, basically all the goodies, sti 2,5 semi-closed deck, Special modified crank from Axis, Forged Rods and cp pistons, I kindly ask for the rev limiter recommendations and he stated 8500 RPMs.

We put it the engine with standard wrx heads for break in, in the mean time we order from axis again a full wrx head work which included half mm oversize valves, dual springs and it retainers.

We ran the short block with a new sti oil pump which Ron "Shimmed" a bit for some extra pressure, the work that he does to the crank drops down the pressure a the bearings 5 psi or so, so he though this will compensate.

Okay back on the road, we ran the engine 1000 miles breaking in and driven for school and market, at 6 psi of boost and never rev it pass 4500 rpms.

We pulled out the engine and we send the heads to Axis to have them upgraded, we received them and we started the assembly process.

Once the heads were installed I did a leak down test on Cold just to make sure all the valves and cylinders where properly sealing, my tremendous surprise was that I cylinder 1 and 3 were LEAKING like hell!!!, I opted for nothing more than disassemble the whole engine again, and after checking the valves seats we found all 4 valves at cylinder 1 and 3 at cylinder 2 where NOT properly seating against the head, we needed to disassemble the whole work we had paid for and start our own, this clearly state the poor quality control axis put into this work, even though I called Ron and told the situation and asked for a new set of head gasket at least, of course I paid 100 USD for the "favor" to have them shipped to me.

We reassemble the engine again, and I had this fear inside because if this had happed to the head what might had happened when I rev up the heavy 2.5L to his suggested 8500 rpms?. Well I though this was an isolated issue with the head and then we put in the engine back in the car, but our terrible nightmare was going to be in just a few hours later.

Back on the dyno, we did a 40 miles breaking in for all the headwork, checking everything on our dyno lab. We started at 8 psi of boost and we were making 285 HP at the flywheel, the FP3055 turbo was spooling fast generating a very torquey curve, timing was not that aggressive and Air fuel ratio were fixed to 11.5 to 1, there was absolutely no knock from our digital display and from our mechanical linked to engine "bronze pipe".,

Well it was time to make a full dyno pull to 7200 rpms, we did one time 295 HP was gotten, then another one to 7800 rpms, when my partner who was at the front heard this clunking sound coming out of the engine, everything was so fast I started to hear it immediately while the car was decelerating on the Dyno, I knew from experience it was ROD KNOCK!!!!

Yes fellas the engine got a terrible rod knock on cyl number 2, we were so frustrated, I called Ron and he told me "what do you want me for?" there is no warranty here, this is not going to happened!!! he told me he could sell me again a new crank and a set of bearings, I said, MY GOD! how this guy, after expending 6000 USD could come across which such a bad customer service, I though again that it might be a good idea if he could cover the parts as for warranty, but he turned his back on me, and told me he was not interest, he told me hey "you are not at my tuning level" and If I cover warranty like this I would had broken many years ago....

Well, just judge by yourself, I ended up with a crap of an engine, service, and let me tell you this won't happen again, my advise, do your sefl a favor and never send AXIS power and order.

The worst part is that we saw all rest of the bearings and there were no signs of oil starvation, cavitation, low oil/oil pressure, just cylinder number 2 rod bearing got damaged.

I then measured clearance with plastigauge and proper tools, and we found many of them OUT of clearance, even for a "race engine" so I don't think any of their motors will last the punishment of 8500 rpms even more with their crappy tolerance measures!!!

I've seen mention of Plastigauge to measure journal clearances in both threads. Don't rely on Plastigauge for accurate measurement of clearances in high-performance applications! Use the industry standard of calipers, micrometers, and snap gauges to measure outside and inside bearing to journal clearances.

Plastigauge™ is okay for standard engine rebuilds for passenger vehicles but I don't think there is a race engine builder that relies on this low-buck tool.
