Best possible upgrade for your '04 WRX: Read this website, www.nasioc.com, scoobymods.com, subarureview.com, and many others and just learn. I too want to mod the hell out of my rex, but also have this question on where to start. Keep reading. I've gone from sway bars to reflashes, to exhaust, to wheels, to whatever. Becoming well informed is the best possible modification for your car...short of trading in on an STi
Obviously you should research a little before you decide. I decided to go with a turboback first. Next i plan on doing a computer reflash. It all depends on what you want.
With a turboback as your first mod you get a very satisfying exhaust sound right off the bat. An uppipe after that will also be a big improvement. You can get a quite a decent increase in power with those mods. Then you can start with reflahes, a UTEC, etc.

I'd stay away from the pulley if you ever plan on getting a light weight flywheel. There's no Harmonic Damper on an after market flywheel. If you do get pulleys get an under-driven power-steering, alternator, and water pump if there is one, as these will not affect the crank pulley. A light weight flywheel is more bang for your buck then any crank pulley is anyways.
