1. Away from the header.
2. To be able to use a larger filter.
3. To make more room for the hi-cap oil pan.
4. To shorten the oil cooler lines.

4 good reasons, is there a kit for the wrx? I bet you could use one for a hp1 with the right fittings and hoses. The k&n is huge ! it must hold like a quart and a half (bottom pic)
