Air system/oil catch can questions

quick question on the oil catch can system. The wrx has 2 breather systems and 1 crankcase/pvc.. ? Does the air leave these and re-enter the intake inlet pipe..? and is that how oil vapor gets into everything because of this air cycle?.. Now what is the purpose of this dirty air going back through the intake system, cant it just go out the exhaust..? please help me figure this one out, thank you!! Ken

You shouldn't vent either of those to atmosphere. The ECU is expecting that amount of air back into the intake. Besides that, it is not very environmentally friendly. The air is recycled as part of the emissions control system.
