are aftermarket turbo inlets worth it?

I've heard they are pretty interesting (as in: agonizing) to install. If you are running enough boost to bulge or flex the stock piece, then an upgraded pipe would probably be worth it.
Here's a Scoobymods thread with a variety of opinions. Note that the strong "pro" opinion on the thread is from a guy who sells car parts for a living

I wouldn't mess with it, unless your stock one is messed up. Any reported gains are minimal (on the stock turbo), and the install is supposed to be ridiculous. My stock hose ripped when I tightened the clamp too much, and I ended up having it replaced with another factory hose. I was going to go with a silicone hose, but after looking into it more, I decided on either the APS inlet, or factory. Both require removal of the intake manifold, and the factory one is much cheaper and fits perfect.
I'd personally put your money elsewhere unless your stock hose is in bad shape.

ive been wanting to get one of these for a while now, but for almost $300, iono. I currently have a vf34 setup and one of the guys at gruppe-s told me if i do get the inlet hose I have to get it retuned.
