Advice.
Advice.
I am getting a new WRX relitively shortly, and I am already thinking about mods. I think I will have over $4,000 for mods alone on this car.
I was hoping to get your advice on what I should get.
The three main areas that I have tenitively decided to upgrade are: Engine ( ie some sort of stage set up) Suspention, Brakes
any advice on products or where to get the stuff would be a great help to me. Thank you in advance.
oh btw I know tires are the main thing to upgrade, but I would like to go awhile on the stock ones b4 upgrading them, still some advice on which brand and where to buy for a good price would be appreciated. THNX

I know there are a bunch of people who dont agree with me on the following:
1st thing should be - brakes, suspension, wheels/tires.
then do all the power mods.

Unfortunetly I am not from the bay area, I am from san diego, lil diff part of the state
actually I was considering the stage 1 kit(vishnu) so far this is what I have been referencing...here
is it true that the 1/4 times and 0-60 are the same for a turboxs stage 3 and a vishnu stage 1 ???
by those numbers I dont really get it, can someone explain?

robb, I actually will probubly be the one to support you on that, for me I love the corners ( twisties as you ppl call them) for that its less about power and more about handling braking, and line taking. But I dont want my car to be underpowered either, I am looking for a good ballence.

Also what type of tires from tirerack.com should I look at?
and has everyone here basically done their own mods, I heard they were easy, but I am kind a car dult, I am hoping not to screw anything up....

If your gonna put 4 grand into a WRX why dont you look at an STi that is base. I am lookin at one now with no options for 29,500. You get lowered suspension, bigger brakes, ligher wheels, and stock it makes like 100 whp more than the WRX. Stronger drivetrain. Food 4 thought.

its very true that with 4k I could be looking into sti/evo range, which hasnt escaped my mind, but I want to see if puting the 4k into the wrx would make it about as good as a sti...if so I would prolly rather go that route
that is still however in the back of my mind.

Think about it. A stronger drivetrain, bigger displacement, bigger turbo, bigger i.c., bigger spoiler.
Downside vs. WRX no radio (could be pos if you want to upgrade anyway), summer tires if you live in a snowy place, insurance, and extra attention. But the main difference between the two is have a stock STi or a unique WRX.

With 4'gs, I've seen a few car magazines with WRX's dynoing at 350+ WHP. Have fun moddin' the thing! If you need help I'm sure there are a lot of SoCal guys down there that would enjoy helping.

for tires, if you wanna get the best get potenza s-03's. i have had several other tires, and these are the best by far. i have to plug for the sti option, simply due to the fact that it has much more potential. .5 more liters, and alot of things to not have to worry about. ie: transmission. plus, the sti is much smoother then most modded wrx's i have drove/ ridden in. but modding is definately the fun part.
I thank you all for your advice, I think I have enough info to make a decition here soon.
The biggest thing I wouldnt like about getting the STI is the attention factor, I dont like the idea of having my car be a target for people to steal.
again thank you all for your comments :-)

I agree with Nick. Personally, I'd rather put the extra cash toward an STi. If you spend the 4k on the WRX, you risk warranty denial and/or reliability problems due to the extra power mods. On the other hand, a stock STi should give you the performance you're looking for with no worries about warranty coverage due to mods.

I think the first thing you should get is the service tech manual. Esp since you are little worried about doing the mods yourself, the tech manual has diagrams and the torque specs for the nuts and bolts on your car. Like you I'm a little scarred of messing up the mod work myself
but in my old car I did all the work on it myself to help keep it running and the only thing I used for reference was the tech manual. I think by far this is one of the best things I've spent with my money. After the tech manual I would go with wheels/tires, just like everyone says. Then I would save up for some upgraded brakes before I did any major engine mods.
